The Assurance Gap

The Assurance Gap: Where the Real Compliance Risk Lives in KSA Right Now
Saudi Arabia isn't short on ambition. SDAIA projects AI adoption could generate $56 billion a year in productivity gains across government alone. That's the headline.
Here's the part that doesn't make the headline: SDAIA is shifting from publishing frameworks to actively monitoring compliance against them. The gap between how fast organizations are adopting AI and how mature their governance controls actually are that's the assurance gap, and it's where enforcement risk lives.
Three questions worth asking before an auditor asks them for you:
Do you have a current AI and data asset inventory, not one built for last year's audit?
Are your controls mapped to SDAIA's actual framework pillars, or to a generic template that looks the part?
Is governance owned by a named person, or is it "everyone's job" which usually means no one's?
Organizations that can't demonstrate governance maturity aren't just facing fines. They're facing exclusion from government procurement and reputational exposure that's harder to fix than a compliance gap.
Adoption is the easy part. Assurance is the part that gets audited.
